Mindfulness for Life (MBCT-L) is offered as a taught face-to-face or online programme, applicable to the general population. It offers mindfulness practices and cognitive-behavioural approaches in ways that are intended to be accessible to all. It guides participants in how to apply this learning in everyday life both to manage difficulties but also to cultivate joy, compassion, equanimity and wisdom. It offers a different way of living that supports people to work with distress and difficulties, but also to savour life, realise their potential and to flourish.
Compared to MBCT-D (MBCT for recurrent Depression & Anxiety), this is an important shift of emphasis, supporting people to experience gratitude, to feel more connected to others, to recognise meaning in their lives and to live in ways that are consistent with their values. MBCT-L follows the model of MBCT-D with 2-hour classes and about 40 minutes of ‘formal’ Home Practice per day. Compared to the M- FP course, MBCT-L is a more in-depth programme with a clear and explicit intention of cultivating lasting and sustainable change.
The theory underpinning MBCT-L draws together ancient wisdom and modern psychology in ways that we as mindfulness teachers can use to inform our teaching, providing a route map for navigating a way out of our suffering and a way of being in the world with greater ease, connection and joy.
The course is supported by weekly handouts building to a course handbook, as well as online audio meditation guidance. A dedicated private Face book group administered by your teacher, Karen Duarte, will also offer peer support on your mindfulness journey.
